  • Is it better to buy a resin or oil transformer?

There is no specific parameter for choosing the type of transformer to purchase; it primarily depends on the project based on the customer's requirements. Additionally, it is influenced by the location where it will be installed (for example, indoors or outdoors), the country of installation, as well as the type of system it will supply (for example, photovoltaic, powering furnaces, etc.).

  • What is the delivery time?

Adequate flexibility is provided according to customer request

  • Are control tests carried out on transformers?

Our transformers undergo testing in accordance with the procedures outlined in the CEI EN 60076-11 standard before being released to the market.

Routine tests are included in the price and are conducted at our facilities by experienced personnel. It is also possible to attend the tests and visit the production area.

At the customer's request, and for an additional cost, type tests can be carried out at laboratories managed by recognised external entities, such as (CESI-Milan), as well as special tests, including:

    • Short-circuit withstand test
    • Lightning impulse withstand test
    • Heating test
    • Noise test

Upon completion of the testing, the transformers are bolted and secured onto wooden pallets, specially made according to the different sizes of transformers we manufacture, and finally wrapped in shrink film to provide protection against moisture and atmospheric conditions.

  • How are transformers transported and installed?

As far as transport is concerned, we will evaluate together the most appropriate solution to meet the customer's needs. Installation, on the other hand, is not our responsibility.

  • What certifications does Elettromeccanica Piossasco Srl claim?

All production at Elettromeccanica Piossasco is based on the implementation of a quality assurance system within its processes, developed in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 standards, accredited and verified by the certification body DNV (DET NORSKE VERITAS).

Since September 2021, following tests carried out on our transformers at the KEMA laboratories (Cesi Group), we have obtained E3-C2-F1 certification for resin transformers.

  • What regulations apply to transformers?

Until June 2014, resin transformers were regulated by the standard CEI EN 50541-1:2011-04, while oil transformers were regulated by the standard CEI EN 50464-1:2007-08.

Since 1 July 2015, both of the previous standards have been replaced by the new European standard EN 50588-1 under Regulation EU 548/2014 issued by the European Commission. This regulation aims to achieve greater energy efficiency and overall environmental compatibility of electrical equipment, resulting in a reduction of CO2 emissions. The directive has been implemented in two phases: the first phase was introduced on 1 July 2015, and the second phase, which sets even stricter and more performance-oriented standards, was introduced on 1 July 2021.

Let's get to know it better

The EN 50588-1 standard has introduced technical changes for both oil-filled transformers and resin transformers from 25 kVA to 40 MVA, including:

    • The reduction of induction for no-load losses.
    • The reduction of density for load losses.
    • Additionally, the concept of PEI (Peak Efficiency Index) has been introduced for transformers with a power rating greater than 3150 kVA.

If you would like more information on the matter, please contact us via email at the following address: info@elpitalia.com. We will be happy to explain the current regulations in more detail and answer any queries or clarifications you may have.
